Opera GX

About Opera GX

Opera GX is the world's first browser designed specifically for gamers. Its standout feature is "GX Control," a set of limiters that let you cap the RAM, CPU, and network bandwidth the browser can use. This ensures your browser doesn't lag your game or stream, solving a common pain point for PC gamers.

Visually, it screams "gamer" with neon accents, Razer Chroma integration, and custom sound effects designed by sound engineers. It also features a "GX Corner" dashboard that aggregates free game deals and release calendars, keeping you plugged into the gaming world.

While the aesthetic is polarizing—you either love the cyberpunk look or you don't—the utility of the resource limiters is undeniable. For gamers who keep a browser open on a second monitor while playing, Opera GX offers control that no other browser provides.

Frequently asked questions

Do the GX resource limiters actually help gaming performance?

Yes, the CPU, RAM, and network limiters genuinely throttle the browser's resource usage. This is most impactful on mid-range PCs where background browser activity can cause frame drops. On high-end systems with plenty of headroom, the difference is less noticeable.

Is Opera GX just Opera with a gaming skin?

While Opera GX shares the same Chromium core as Opera, it adds genuine exclusive features like GX Control (resource limiters), GX Corner (game deals and news), Razer Chroma integration, and custom sound effects. It's more than a reskin.

Does Opera GX cost money?

No, Opera GX is completely free. All core features, including the resource limiters and gaming integrations, are available at no cost. The built-in VPN is also free, though optional premium features exist.

Can I use Opera GX as my everyday browser, not just for gaming?

Absolutely. Opera GX has all the features of a full browser including extensions, tabs, sync, and a built-in ad blocker. Many users adopt it as their daily driver. You can tone down the gaming aesthetic by choosing subtler color themes.
