About KeePassXC-Browser
KeePassXC-Browser is for people who want their vault as a file on their own machine, with no company account. It is the official extension for KeePassXC, a free, open source password manager that stores your vault in a local database file. The extension holds no passwords itself: it asks the desktop app on your computer for the right login when you visit a site.
That design has real appeal. There is no vendor account, no cloud service to breach and no subscription. The extension code is on GitHub under GPL-3.0 and runs on Manifest V3 in Chrome. It is listed on the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons and Edge Add-ons, and KeePassXC's documentation also lists support for Vivaldi, Brave and Tor Browser. The Firefox listing shows a release in October 2026.
The costs are practical. You need the KeePassXC app installed and unlocked, connected through the browser's native messaging feature. You are also responsible for backing up the database and syncing it between devices, for example with a file-sync tool you already trust. We found no Safari listing. It suits technical users who value control over convenience.

- No hosted sync, so moving the vault between devices is up to you
- Setup is more technical than a cloud manager
